2016 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lawrence County completed the 2015 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region eight, the Red Devils earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Lawrence County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Mortimer Jordan by a score of 46-20. The Red Devils won as many games as in any season since 2005. It marked the first time since the 2005 season that the Red Devils qualified for the playoffs. The Red Devils last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Since 2010, Lawrence County has gone a combined 21-40. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 5A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Lawrence County has managed to compile a record of 107-152. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 5A and 275th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils are led by head coach Rich Dutton who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-24 over the past four seasons at Lawrence County. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Dutton. Coach Dutton's overall record as a head football coach in four season stands at 17-24 (41.5%). The Lawrence County Red Devils will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2016 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Red Devils could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season. Unfortunately, Lawrence County finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any shot at the postseason. The Red Devils open the 2016 season at home against non-region opponent Hartselle on Friday, August 26 at Red Devil Stadium. Last year the Hartselle Tigers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 6A region eight. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Gardendale by a score of 38-14. Lawrence County and Hartselle have met a total of 57 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 14-39-4 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2013 with Hartselle winning by a score of 44-20. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
